the headline banner always shows the last rank that has been typed, not necessarily the one you want to show. If you amend the rank you want to show by adding a space in the rarely used "sub unit" box and save it then the rank you want will then show (until someone else comes along and adds another!)

possibly a typo in the gazette see https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/557501 if the numbering of the 2/5th LF was usually 201*** rather than 301*** then that's the likely answer.

The reply counter stopped working that week so you'll probably find that they have been done and replied to but the counter still shows 0 replies.

If you click on the request you should see the replies.

This forum is "an off the shelf" add-on and is not user friendly for either the public or volunteers

    His page is here https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/6300964
The National Archives recorded numbers without the / and this is how the data appears on lives to begin with so its easiest to search for Navy men without it i.e.J19598

his page is here https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/2596856, his medal card is a bit hard to read and the number had been mis-transcribed by the National Archives. The error has been reported

    Hi Ian,
Glad it was helpful, hopefully the CWGC will recognise him once the case has been submitted.
    Regards
    Richard

It's possible he has been overlooked by the CWGC, it has happened a lot more often than you'd think. Looking at the CWGC paper documents for 22022 Fred Taylor was initially marked as RH Taylor and I suspect the 2 men (brothers?) were mixed up leading to Richard not being recorded. He would be a candidate for the "in from the cold" project which works to get these people CWGC recognition, you can see their work here http://www.infromthecold.org/report_missing_casualty.asp#
There would seem to be plenty of supporting evidence despite the lack of service records with them both appearing in the Register of Soldiers Effects and Pension Cards.
    Regards
    Richard

It's a common issue with Mc/Mac surnames that there is no consistency of spelling in records, so hence #7129 John MacDonald is recorded on the CWGC as MACdonald (2nd Lt 5th Btn) but 2 names below him on the Thiepval register #2009 John MacDonald is recorded as MCdonald (Pvt 6th Btn).

So CWGC have commemorated them both just with slight spelling variations
    Regards
    Richard

2nd Lt https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/2777604 (you have already added to his page)

    Anonymous commented  ·

Military records rarely agree on spelling of Mc/Mac surnames, I've added his CWGC entry to his page. The 2nd/Lt is most likely to be another man.
    Regards Richard

PS don't know if you'll see this as the comments counter on the forum seems to be broken :-(
