This would be really helpful, and it is something which has been raised a number of times now. My communities are quite small, but I really feel for people managing big communities, because I have enough trouble with finding people in my small communities!

Christopher Victor Bulstrode also has two records:

    https://beta.livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/597195

    https://beta.livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/5180115

This is a unique name, so therefore it is impossible that it is more than one person.

This is a good idea. However, I think the character limits themselves are too restrictive. A lot of the men I'm entering data for were married or baptised at "Holy Trinity church, Leverstock Green, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire". That's the accurate thing to type. I could miss out the word church, and change Hertfordshire to Herts, but it still doesn't like it much, and I end up having to take commas out etc to make it fit. I don't feel comfortable with that because it makes it less accurate. England is full of long placenames, so I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

This is important when dates of death are in France.... and let's face it, that's going to be a very common occurrence on this website!

I think this is a major concern and we must ensure compliance under the Data Protection Act. The children of the people connected to WW1 are invariably elderly if they are still alive, and may be vulnerable so this is a worry. My Dad is nearly 90 and has a very rare name, so could easily be identified so I do not feel I should add him to this database in his lifetime.

Yes, I agree. The box does obscure the underlying record, and you can't see the box you have to click on to connect the record as soon as you type anything in the box. The only way I've found is to make the box smaller using the symbol in the bottom right hand corner, and when you've done that you can then see the button again.

Oh yes - and it's telling me I have -1 votes left! I don't know how I managed that!

Yes, it told me I couldn't make any more suggestions now I've used my votes up.

Probably a space to explain would be enough. I'm a family historian, so that's the angle I'm coming from, and accuracy of relationships can be very important. Incidentally, I've been told that I have run out of votes and suggestions I can make. I realise you probably don't want to be inundated by huge numbers of comments, but the more I use the site, the more things I discover, and it seems a shame that I won't be able to feed anything back. Surely this is the time you most need the suggestions from people who are very experienced in using sites like yours, and who know what sorts of things need to be addressed. I discovered something else I wanted to suggest yesterday, but could not do so. Is there any way round this? Thanks.

I am a One-Name Study researcher, so I will be looking at everyone on the database with the surnames I'm studying. When all the surnames are identical, sorting the forenames or initials would really help. One of my studies has 62 entries, and that's my biggest study, but I have friends who will be juggling much larger numbers than that. The surname I was looking at was Boustead.

I think this is an important area to look at. If, like me, you're a family historian rather than a military one, the many abbreviations used in the records can cause confusion, particularly if the are hand-written, as they often are in documents like service records.

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for the response. One of the URLS which show you an example of this is:

    Thanks, Anni
