This has sort of been raised before http://support.livesofthefirstworldwar.org/forums/239242-improvement-ideas/suggestions/6874001-accidentally-killed

For now, I just use the Unknown option for these types of deaths such as where they are listed as 'Died' in SDGW. You can then add a summary on the Death page and a more detailed description as a personal story.

It is far from ideal but given the the lack of improvements being done, it is probably the best that can be hoped for.

    Sue

You don't really believe this is going to be an accurate record of those who served did you? I admit I have never yet seen a MIC which details pre-war marriages, children and even where the parents were for the 1881 Census but that may just be me.

Given how useless BrightSoid are, I would contact Amy Carmichael at IWM as she has taken over from Luke Smith.

Luke Smith has run away so you need to contact Amy Carmichael at IWM to get anything done here about why there is no real improvements on this site.

Cnsidering they can't even deliver on their core promises

    "Coming during 2014
We will be adding further Life Story records over the centenary. The following are planned during this year: UK Conscientious Objectors; New Zealand Expeditionary Force Index; Australian Imperial Force Index; Royal Naval Officer Records; Royal Marines Service Register and more..."

there is not much hope of Brightsolid doing anything useful that doesn't involve people paying them money.

    Andrew

FMP already have the transcriptions for WO 399 so it is up to them on when they can be bothered to pay any attention to 'Lives'.

Their promises for 2014 are :

    https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/a-z-of-record-sets

    Coming during 2014
We will be adding further Life Story records over the centenary. The following are planned during this year: UK Conscientious Objectors; New Zealand Expeditionary Force Index; Australian Imperial Force Index; Royal Naval Officer Records; Royal Marines Service Register and more...

And as I don't expect BrightSolid to deliver on most of these promises, I think you can expect Nurses' records in 2018 aif you're lucky.

    I sort of agree.

Apart from family documents, Soldiers Died in the Great War is probably the main source on how a man died. Newspapers (especially earlier in the wa)r tended to "sex up" the facts for morale purposes.

    Soldiers Died has 3 categories:

    - Killed in Action - this is for men who died as a result of enemy activities e.g. shelling trenches, trench raids, snipers. This was applied even to wounded who died of wounds before getting into the medical treatment system. So if a man was brought in wounded but died before reaching the Aid Post, he was classed as Killed in Action.

    - Died of Wounds - pretty self explanatory. Once a wounded man reached medical treatment and he died then he was regarded as dying of wounds.

    - Died - this covered all other causes while the man was in the Forces i.e. Spanish Flu, accidentally killed such as falling from a train, getting a bad kick from a horse, a training session with bombs going wrong etc (I have seen these examples)

There should be a "Died while serving" option to cover situations like yours.

The "War Related Sickness" options needs to be kept as it covers those men missed by CWGC such as http://infromthecold.org/

Why is this now open for voting when a similar proposal was put in the "It might jeopardise DC Thomson's Revenue/Too hard" basket months ago?

    http://support.livesofthefirstworldwar.org/forums/239242-improvement-ideas/suggestions/5651014-link-a-source-to-multiple-life-stories

I really do wish IWM would either disassociate their good name with this project or actually take control of it and get it done properly.

Post on the Great War Forum (http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/) as there is someone there who specialises in Concert Parties.

RFC/RAF records haven't been added to the site yet. I don't know when they will be but it is supposed to be sometime this year.

IWM is running a separate project called Operation War Diary (http://www.operationwardiary.org/#/about) which is supposed to link in with Lives. I have no idea what is planned but something is in the pipeline for this purpose I think.

I somehow still seem to have -5 votes for this part of the forum but I'd like to add my support for this idea.
