    Hi Judith,

you are right, the data is still being 'ingested' - this probably accounts for the odd search behaviour. And tomorrow many of the records will be automatically connected. however, I am concerned about your comments. could you provide some links to the errors and we'll do some additional checks.

    best wishes,

    Luke.

p.s. you looked great on the The People Remember, on BBC 1 on Monday. And almost 40,000 people visited the site after your appearance!

    Hi Jon,

That is a really good point. We will add some guidance on this. In meantime, here is how you can do this:
If the Royal Aero Club certificate is located:
    - on another website, or in a publication or archive; then add it as an External Reference (please don't upload it from another site unless you have permission)
    - in your possession; then upload an image of it

You can then use it to add any facts it proves. For example: Military Service > Other Military Event > Training (add date, number and any other details).
You could also use it as evidence of date and place of birth.

    many thanks,

    Luke (Smith)

    Hi Lynne,

Heather knows more than I do about this -- so I definitely second that!

Here is a Frederick Charles Pritchard in the Royal Navy, born in Bristol: https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/6208946

    Hi Lynne,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble finding people. We aim to include everybody who contributed. You can find help on finding people and information on the 6.8 million included already at: https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/finding-a-named-individual

    many thanks,

    Hi,

Is this the Robert J Davies you have information on?
    https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/1124332

If so, we'd love you to upload an image, share a story or connect evidence. You can then use the evidence to prove facts. Find out more in this guide:

    Hi,

Here is his Life Story, can you add photos, stories or evidence?

    Hi Judy,

Here is his Life Story page:
    https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/994669

No one has added anything yet and we'd love you to upload a photo, share a story and connect evidence. You can then use the evidence to add facts that the evidence proves. His story will then be available for all to see, forever. In time, perhaps others will add the information you seek.

    many thanks,

    Luke (Smith)

    Hello Anonymous,

If you share his name and other details here, perhaps others can help you find out more.

P.s. If you add the names and any other details you have, others here may be able to help you find your relatives.

    Hi Sharon,

Good question and of course you are correct in relation to multiple sources of evidence for a fact. You can get to this information, in the 'change history' for the fact. Click on the cog next to 'view source'. The click on 'View change history.' All the sources and fact improvements are shown there.

    many thanks,

    Hi Adrian,

    Excellent questions -- thank you!

When we have introduced manual seeding, we will also create a process to allow members to propose missing people and provide evidence that they contributed during the war. Our moderators will then create Life Stories for these missing people. Clearly, it will take time for people to propose them and for us to ad the Life Stories. This is a long term project and we are comitted to including those 'missing' Life stories.

    best wishes,

    Luke

    Hi,

Thank you for this enquiry and the responses.

Just to clarify one point from Adrian's comment -- when the CWGC data is added, it won’t be used as seed data – instead, it will be used to automatically complete the CWGC fields for those people we can match up automatically from name, unit and service number. You’re quite right that the cause or location of death has no bearing on whether someone will be included in Lives of the First World War – we will ultimately include *everyone* who contributed to the war in some way, whether they died in combat, at home, or survived the war. Two of the names mentioned in the original post are not (yet) included because they don’t have a medal index card or appear in any other 'seed' record set, like many who (for example) never served overseas. One of them does, John Robert Warre Ekins:
    https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/6687867

When we have 'seeded' from all the major sources of evidence, we will allow missing people to be proposed and our moderators will create these Life Stories manually. In those caases, some other evidence of their war service will be required. This is a complex process and will take us some months to deliver.

    Many thanks,

    Luke (Smith)

    Hi Ken,

Apologies, I see my effort was in haste. It should say:
"You can use the same source of evidence that the fact came from. First select it from the list and then improve the fact via the fact wizard."

But that does not meet your need.

So, you can connect those sources of evidence as External References, and add new facts from there. Out of interest, how do you know that the card has the wrong number -- is it possible you are looking at the wrong card?

    best,

    Luke.

    Hi Richard,

    These are excellent suggestions.

Name authorities are part of our plans, but we have a lot of features to deliver, so we can't commit to when. We understand the issues of merging free text names with, say, geonames. Others have tackled them before us. We have decided to go live with a core feature set and improve it based on what people do with the site. Much the same applies to an 'order of battle' or similar.

    best,

    Luke

Yes, that would work. In time you will be able to find all the people who have been added as serving on the HMS Ark Royal. But a community allows you to manage that group yourself, to share it and to include some contextual information about your community.

    best,

    Luke.
