    Hi,
I have reported this error to our technical team. When the database is migrated to IWM in a few weeks, we will ensure that any such entries appear on the Timeline when the permanent digital memorial is launched at the end of June.
    Thanks and Best Wishes,
    Charlotte

Hello, we have added information to our FAQs about the future of the database here: https://support.livesofthefirstworldwar.org/knowledgebase/topics/147388-closing-lives-of-the-first-world-war, and I hope that these will help to answer your questions. In terms of the missing names yet to add, unfortunately there is no scope to keep the database open for further additions after 18 March 2019.

    Best Wishes,
    Charlotte

Hello, the new search facility will be improved and so you will be able to search ALL fields within the database – this will help to locate the Alias stories. For those that you come across over the time remaining, you can add the alias name under ‘Served As’. This is better than creating two separate stories and merging them.
    Best Wishes, Charlotte

Hello, the current Lives URLs will redirect to the new versions on iwm.org.uk so there is no need to amend anything on your website.

Hello Mary, you can use the toolbar to filter your results and just select the first name and surname that you are looking for. On a desktop computer, the filters are on the left of the page and on mobile devices the filters appear towards the bottom of the page. Please see this page for further details: https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/finding-a-named-individual

From the outset, Lives of the First World War was conceived as a centenary project to run between 2014 and 2019. We have been communicating about the end of the project since March of last year, to allow our users time to make contributions.

    Best Wishes,
    Charlotte

Thank you for your support, Janice. Our FAQs explain why the site is closing, as well as provide details on the long-term legacy of the project: https://support.livesofthefirstworldwar.org/knowledgebase/topics/147388-closing-lives-of-the-first-world-war

Thank you for sharing this poignant film with us, Malcolm. It would be great if you could please add a link to the film onto your great grandfather's page, by clicking 'Add to Life Story' and then 'External Reference'.

    Best Wishes,
    Charlotte

    Hello,

I've had a look and some of the individuals listed as W Parks on the CWGC records have more details in the Soldiers Died in the Great War database - this gives their first names.

The only match I can see for a William Parks, Sussex Regiment is

    - William Alfred Parks - born in 1893 in Kilburn, Middlesex. Father William, brother Frederick. Joined the Sussex Regiment Chichester in 1911. Died in Karachi in 1918 https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/3401243

Does this tie in with what you already know?

    Thanks and Best Wishes,
    Charlotte

Thank you for your query. We will not be able to process requests for changes to the database after 18 March 2019, except in the case of copyright infringement and takedown requests: https://www.iwm.org.uk/form/takedown-of-material

    Not a problem!

Hello, do you have evidence that this is the same person? Unfortunately the Medal Index Cards contain different information; one does not provide the service number whereas the other does not tell us James' rank or date of death. If you have another source, then we can review it.
    Thanks and Best Wishes,
    Charlotte

Hi Sharon, there are two things that you can do:
    1. If you upload the marriage certificate and then click 'Add Facts from this Evidence, you can change his first name to James and enter Peter under 'Served as'.
    2. To explain the change of name, please click 'Add to Life Story' and then 'Share a Story'. This will give you a text box where you can explain what you have written here, so that others can read it.

I hope that this is helpful, thank you for getting in touch.

    Best Wishes,
    Charlotte
