Thanks for merging. Happy to remove my version of SD's story from the primary if SD adds her own to it - just didn't want it lost with the duplicate. :-)

Oh! Perhaps living in Arklow ??? Thanks - the sinking of the sailing vessel [not SS/steam ship] "Jane Williamson" makes for interesting, but natually sad, reading

Think I have already removed any offending evidence/facts - would be pleased if you would check! :-)

    R Bagshaw commented  ·

So if I've got this right -

Annie Louise Roberts https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/7669360 died 1916 - and the currently attached MIC transcription [Roberts nee Siers] is erroneous.

Real fly in the ointment - and a particular nuisance as I couldn't find images of the relevant MICs on Ancestry either - searched and searched

Annie Siers https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/4964857 and Annie Roberts, nee Siers https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/4962383 are the same [and lived beyond 1916]

SWB = Silver War Badge [not Silver Wound Badge] - issued to men medically discharged as unfit for service - was started mid.1916 to counter white-feather accusations of war-shirking [remarkably men found unfit for service early in the war, before enlistment or after & then discharged (due to wounds or illness) were often reclassified as fit for service later in the war (sometimes in combat roles or in overseas theatres in less-demanding positions such as the Labour Corps or in the RAMC, as seems to have been the case for your GGF). Less fit still they might still serve in UK in LC, Army Service Corps, Royal Defence Corps (sometimes in Protection Companies/PoW guards) or RAMC]. As he was serving in 1916 I suspect he didn't get a SWB, though I could easily be proved wrong!

BTW thanks for the 1911 Census - that's the man - a police constable as mentioned in the newspaper cutting. :-) :-)

    Thanks - that's the plan :-)

Fair enough. Groquet alias gets you to Gill the man. Expensive things all those subscriptions - I have to keep a tight rein and only dip in/cough up occasionally ;-) Having a dry period at the moment but it avoids distraction and allows a splurge on CWGC's missing [as I am sure you have guessed!] Cheers. :-)

    R Bagshaw commented  ·

Thanks for creating - knew how to find and got to the "official" CWGC before I read your comment - and added it for completeness on his GILL LS. First used the external(s) so I could annotate with his various name combos. Wonder if we now also need an ALIAS for GROQUEL as that is how his MIC seems to read.??? Not that sure we do as it seems the only document to read that way. Will leave it with you.

    R Bagshaw commented  ·

Based on a similar previous I have taken the existing https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/1487543 GROQUEL and via GROQUET updated to GILL

I suppose what is now actually needed is the Alias as GROQUEL actually k.a. GROQUET creating as a Duplicate to allow for searches under both alias names please. Mind you as it stands all three names are in the existing life - you decide if a new life is now really needed.
