  1. Conscientious Objection and Civilians

The field under "Civilian Contributions" for Conscientious Objectors is probably inadequate.

At the moment, the field essentially allows for one single Tribunal to be entered, when the vast majority of the 17-18,000 COs in Britain went before a Tribunal at least twice (and often three times).

There is no field for entering the experiences of a CO - Prison? Torture at the hands of the military? Death? - which were as varied as those of soldiers.

I applaud the inclusion of Conscientious Objectors in the project, but I would suggest that their records be filled out to a greater degree…

  2. Occasional free record access

I understand the requirement for payment for premium record access, but could there be occasional free access periods, for example over the Armistice remembrance weekend in November and to mark other particularly significant remembrance events? This is a common feature of the major family history subscription services.

  4. There is a need to be able to add to a story about a person WITHOUT having to

Addiing to/editing details with regards an idividual-

I fully understand the need to ensure the integrity of the information on the database for military and family historians but having to go through the external reference facility (to add info or edit details of an individual) seems to be a very long winded and a duplicate way to add info about an individual that couuld actually be directly inputted by an individual directly onto a story the "Pen" icon. And as for integrity of other databases being used as evidence to add to soldiers stories i would advise caution as many…

  5. Feedback Problem

The feedback process is a little confusing - I discovered, through trial and error, that you need to type just a few characters in the Title (which is not obvious) before the full feedback box appears. If I typed more than a few characters in the title the full feedback box disappears. Then you need to return to the title to complete it. Hope this helps.

  6. Add or propose more lives

I have a detailed life story for my great uncle who served in the First World War and is not yet listed. Very frustrated that I cant add it!

  7. On a positive note

If I may, I would like to balance some of the negative comments I see with some feedback on my quite positive experience of being a new user.
I have done some family research myself and have been waiting for this site which provides a space for my grandfather's commemoration and where I can contribute to this process and remember him.
I would ask people to be patient, it is early days yet and I am sure the good suggestions people offer will be considered and many improvements will be made over time. This project is a wonderful but no…

  8. Being able to sort facts chronologically

It would be useful to be able to sort facts chronologically once entered, such as order of children, and addresses. At the moment, they stay in the order they were entered.

  9. How to Amend/Correct Evidence!

Thomas Edward Beaver was my great-uncle. He did NOT serve in the South Staffordshire Regiment. He joined the Sherwood Foresters in 1917, but was posted to the North Staffordshire Regiment on arrival in France in March 1918, receiving the number 42886. He was reported missing, presumed killed on 15 April 1918.

  11. Does not work properly under Internet Explorer 9

After linking evidence I tried adding facts while running the site under Vista/internet Explorer 9 and the only things I could add/change were names and gender. When I clicked on date of birth/father/mother/anything else nothing happened, however when I then reopened under Chrome on same laptop (Vista) presto all fine and the screens also looked like thise in the tutorials! Clearly a bug here to be fixed....

  12. No coverage as far as I can ascertain of Australian Forces at Gallipoli

An excellent initiative but unclear how to contribute.

I am a published author and have constructed a website devoted to my great-uncle who fought on Gallipoli. I also am beginning a commissioned book on the subject.

At present there are 'No Results' for major AIF (Australian Imperial Force) Battallions who fought at Anzac Cove in the lamentable Dardanelles Campaign. Also his name brings up 'No results' despite the fact he was an officer commanding a platoon.

Will this information be available in the future as Commonwealth Forces are to be covered but perhaps later?

  13. How do we unsubscribe, or is that a secret also?

It seems to me that this is just smoke and mirrors. I can find no way to add my grandfathers details. He was an Old Contemptible and was in there 9 Aug 1914, like most of the regulars. Most of whom, I may add were wiped out. To me it looks as if you want us to pay to give you the information (ALL of which I already have). Think I'll just stick with Ancestry!!!

  14. Ease of use and linkage to commercial organisation

I have loads of info on a number of ancestors from another family research company. Seems I can't share them without paying. So very very disappointing that what should be a national archive is so user unfriendly and costly. I'll just have to remember my relatives personally and not share the info I have. Severely irritated to say the least. Please delete my account - no point in having it just so you can send me more 'commercial' emails.

  15. Ability to load landscape images

Currently it only seems possible to load images in the "portrait" format. It should also be possible to display images and thumbnails in the "landscape" format as many pictures - especially group pictures are presented this way.

  16. OCR

A lot of the info are handwritten and often not the easiest to read.
I know this is diffifult but a plugin to scan documents and have them converted to text would be great!
I think that single issue is one of the greatest challenges perserving the memory of WW1.

  18. Driver and also Sargeant surnames

I have been searching the Driver family, but the search engine only thinks I am searching for a soldier with the title of "Driver". It will not offer me the surname of Driver to search in. This would also apply to the surname Sargeant.

  19. My grandfather is not here? We have his medals and his war record and service number?

Not sure why my grandfather is not here? We found him at the National Archives. We have his service number/records and regiment and when/where he enlisted.

  20. I searched on my grandfather with his name and service number. Several other names came up ?n Is the service number not a unique number ?

I search on my great uncle with his name and service number and regiment. I believe that you have a "typo". There is a person with his service number, in his regiment but instead of you have 'C' Moody. How do I get this corrected? I have all his records and have a lot of information about him which would be very interesting to share but I do not think I can add this without his record being unique an correct.
