  1. 1891 census not provided?

I have a soldier with a fairly distinctive name, Gad Leather, born 1876 in Barnsley. Now I know his father is Edward Leather born 1850 Barnsley, and that in 1881 and 1891 the family were living in Worsborough Common, Barnsley. But I can find neither man in those census returns on here ... or am I just missing the obvious? Are earlier returns not provided?

  2. Subscriptions

Allow people with findmypast subscriptions to access the premium records. This will allow far more records to be entered and thus supporting facts.

  3. Ability To Make Contact With Owners Of Communities

The ability should be given to be able to make contact with the owners of 'Communities'.

I have noticed that there are now two communities set up for the same Royal Navy ships (HMS Defence and HMS Formidable - and this could extend to other efforts) and there is no way to make contact to coordinate efforts and avoid duplication.

The ability also to set a category for a 'Community' might help folk to determine whether a certain 'Community' exits before embarking on setting one up. For example the two mentioned ships should be in a category of 'Royal Navy…

  4. Service numbers

How long are the service numbers? I ask because my great uncle, William Williams who was a private in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers has a medal index card with the number 14842. I have a digitized copy of it. However I can't find him on this site. But I have found a William Williams with the number 1484. I would like to know if this is MY William! I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

  6. How does the site all fit together?

It may help to have a pictorial (flow chart) representation of how to manage this site. I can't get a 'vision' of how everything fits together and it's frustrating to try and add things although I do appreciate you are seeing improvements - and of course it's vital to maintain integrity of information. I think it's an absolutely wonderful project and one of the most amazing uses for the internet that I can imagine for this millennium! Thank you!

  8. Progress updates

I would very much like to search for surnames where data has already been added / updated but there seems to be no way of searching just these records. eg Brown where information has been added.

Also it would be interesting to know just how many records have been updated / added to as either a number or a percentage of the records held. Is this possible?

  9. Searching existing Communities

No way to find communities already started, so likelihood of duplication. Eg my GF served with 281 Bde RFA - being able to find an existing community for the Brigade would enable individuals to be added & could lead to some fascinating connections being made between people who served in the same unit.

  10. Transcription errors

Transcription errors need to be able to be corrected. Pte/Sapper James Grindrod has been transcribed as James Grinrod. I could be adding history to a relative who cannot be found on the IWM when searched using his REAL name. No point to it unless errors in transcription can be put right.

  11. Right click to Copy Shortcut links to stories from Community view IE11

I guess this is just a bug, but I can't right click on a man's name in my Community view and copy the shortcut to his story. I need to be able to do this to add the link to our local web pages and database for each man. At the moment I'm having to open each story and copy the link from the address bar. As right clicking on the names and Open New Tab works I'm a bit baffled as why Copy Shortcut doesn't.

    Using Windows Explorer 11.
Hmm, just tested it in Firefox - it works there! …

When adding evidence to a Life Story, there is a field for you to explain why this information connects to that Life Story. In addition, there are description fields for uploading images and adding external references that also allow you to go into more detail. This is public so also allows other people to see why you’ve added evidence to a particular Life Story.

  13. Add ability to delete erroneously entered facts

I managed to add a person's campaign medal details twice, from the same evidence, and can see no way of deleting one of them. So it's currently showing that he received 2 Victory medals & 2 British War medals! I've already entered over 30 facts from the evidence, so don't want to solve it by deleting the evidence.

  14. Unremember

Can we have an option to 'unremember' someone. At present if you accidentally click to remember the wrong person (eg someone else with the same name) you can't undo it.

  15. Ability To Edit Stories When Originator

Would you please provide an 'Edit' facility to let the originator (owner) of a story to be able to change/update the text. At present this is not possible and the story has to be deleted and resubmitted as a new story.

  16. In 'Add to Life Story' use full name in introduction

I have two ancestors remembered, Sadler James Walter Strutt and Frederick Victor Strutt. In 'Add to Life Story', it says "Create Sadler Strutt's memorial...." for James Walter. In 'Add to Life Story' for Frederick Victor, it says 'Create Strutt's memorial....". I personally find this quite disrespectful towards Frederick Victor. Why don't you use the soldier's full name in this introductory text?

  17. People not included

What a very confusing website !!!!!
As part of the RBL 'Every Man Remembered' I was given a man at random. 11390 Pte Archie Jackson who died 06/08/1918. He is not listed. Also my grandfather 6933 James Greenwood Lance Cpl Oxford and Bucks L.I. and my great uncle s/220597 Pte James Scarborough Cox RASC.

You say you started with the medal rolls so why arent these npeople on your website please ?

  18. Allow pasting of passwords when signing up

The sign up form disallows pasting of passwords into the two password fields.
This hinders the use of securely-generated passwords (e.g. copied and pasted from LastPass, KeePass, etc).
I was able to circumvent this restriction by adding a value attribute to the two textboxes containing my desired (copy-and-pasted) password using Chrome Developer Tools, but other users may not be so persistent and could use insecure memorisable passwords as a result.

Please consider allowing pasted passwords on the signup page.

  19. How to add a person not listed

My grandfather, killedin action, 1914, John William Hirst, is not listed. I have photos, documents, information. I cannot find how to add a person - is this a navigation problem or is it not an option?
