  3. George Weldrick 14/923 Y&L has incorrect info despite me sending in correction. Please amend

Please correct the info before it becomes immortalised in your memorial. Otherwise the whole effort is pointless

H.M.S. Hood sunk on the 22nd May 1941 with 1,415 casualties, some of whom would have served in the First World War. Sadly we are running out of time to remember them on Lives so the best I could do was to remember H.M.S. Hood on Facebook. If anyone has any helpful ideas, please let me know through Lives. Thanking you.

  8. Missing Campaign Medal MIC for an MM Recipient (France)

I have a MM MIC and a supporting LG entry for 301860 Pte T. Brown of 2/5th Lancashire Fusiliers. Details now at:

    https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/5011879#evidence.

So far so good ……. until I turned up a total blank for a MIC for his Campaign Medals using all sorts of combinations of 301860. As he was awarded the MM for Bravery in "France" (MM MIC) I (dangerously perhaps) assume he would at least be entitled to BWM and BVM? Anyone come across this before? Regards and thanks. Ian.

  10. Great uncle enlisted under a different name

Corporal Peter McAleer was in fact my great uncle James McAleer. He enlisted underage so used his brother Peter's name and birthdate instead of his own. Having researched the two brothers as part of my family history I can prove this but only through the marriage certificate of James's daughter. Will LFWW website allow me to show his real name and date of birth, and provide the evidence with explanation down to his daughters marriage certificate, even though as far as CWGC and the army are concerned?

  11. Who’s who?

I have been hoping to find some clarification.
My great uncle George Parks, son of William and Martha Parks served. He lived to come home, though his wife ran off because she believed he’d be killed.
His younger brother Joseph James Parks was killed in a bombing at the Battle of the Somme and his name is listed at the Theival Memorial. (Father William, wife Alice.)
There is another, younger brother William Parks, Sussex Regiment who apparently was also killed in action. As I look, I find 2 William Parks. One lists his father as William. The other lists his…

  12. I am not sure of the use of the 'VOTE' but limiting the total number of votes is pointless if you want the dataset to be corrected

I have a One Name study registered with the Guild on One Name Studies and I would like all the entries on your database to be correct in terms of those who are on there and those that should not be on there and any typo corrections.

  14. War Related Deaths

First, thank you very much for all the help and opportunity to remember people who were affected by the First World War and in many cases the Second.
Having said that, I am concerned that the number of War Related Deaths may have been underestimated. The cause of death is really for a Doctor or Pathologist to determine, but having grown up in the shadow of both World Wars I would like to point out that according to the National Archives (U.K) "More than one million British military personnel died during the First and Second World Wars, with the First…

  16. Addition of possibly erroneous CWGC information

The only matching CWGC details for #2009 Private John MacDonald record him as a Second Lieutenant with a DCM:
    https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/802518/macdonald,-john/

I have added information from the Medal Rolls and the Soldiers Effects register to his Life, with a note about contradictory information on the year of death which almost certainly was 1916:
    https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/2777610

I can see no matching reference to John MacDonald in the Citations for the DCM:
    https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/ukdcmedal/?name=John_Macdonald&f-F0007CF4=Scottish+Rifles&name_x=i_psx

There are three Second Lieutenants "J MacDonald" on the Scottish Rifles BWM/VM rolls, but none of them indicate they died.

Should I add the CWGC and matching SDGW information with a…

  17. Routine request ............ can anyone advise please

I've got a MIC and SDGW Record for Private Richard Holt Taylor
Date of Birth: 1895 – Date of Death: 1/07/1916
British Army, East Lancashire Regiment, Service #22027 …..however I'm totally stumped in finding a CWGC Record to match it and have been going round in circles for hours. Where do SDGW get their info? Any clues? Regards and thanks

  18. 2 records for NS Jessie Saunders Wilson are for one person

I submit that the 2 nursing sister records for Jessie Saunders Wilson are for the same person-
see the free online CEF service file c/o Library & Archives Canada, for CAMC NS J S Wilson, where on her attestation she gives info re previous service ”1915-Nov to 1917-Sept: American Ambulance of Paris” which would match one record
    & her CAMC enlistment is the other record;
    and
her brother T Melville Wilson #126300, also enlisted in CEF, later promoted to Lieut.
Their father Rev Thomas Wilson was a Presbyterian Church minister, who moved from job to job/place to place, thus differing…

  19. Contacting IWM Volunteers

Somewhere - in this website's help or mail section?-I saw that to contact a IWM Volunteer: go to their profile page and click send mail - I can't see anywhere "send mail" on Volunteer Selena's page - only a list of her comments.
Please, how would I contact a Selena directly using the mail function on my dashboard. Thank you.
