What Is The Extent Of Missing Life Stories?
HMS Defence was sunk at the Battle of Jutland on the 31st May 1916 with the loss of all on board.
A list of those casualties has been obtained and is being used as a ‘check list’ to bring the appropriate ‘Life Stories’ into a ‘HMS Defence Community’.
Now that this exercise has been completed it has been possible to ascertain the extent of missing ‘Life Stories’ which can be categorised as follows:
Royal Navy Ratings Joining Before 1899 = 92
Royal Navy Reserve = 53
Royal Marine Light Infantry = 46
Royal Marine Artillery = 39
Royal Navy Voluntary Reserve = 29
Royal Marine Bandsmen = 14
Royal Navy Officers = 10 [probably officers joining before 1899]
Admiralty Civilians = 4 [Canteen manager and assistants]
Royal Australian Navy = 2
It would be interesting to know when ‘Life Stories’ based on these categories will be incorporated within the project.
We haven't finished seeding Life Stories from seed sets (Royal Marines will be on the site shortly for example, followed by further RNVR and RNAS Life Stories).
The forum helps us keep track of the missing Life Stories, and help those struggling to find one. Best bet is to wait until the all the scheduled Life Stories from the Navy and Marines are on site. I'll be in touch when they are, so we can see which Life Stories are still missing.
We are working through these as fast as we can.
Hope this helps,

Hi Project Team,
Are you implying that all 289 of these missing 'Life Stories' will have to be entered in to the 'Suggested Life Stories Forum' before being considered and that non of the categories that I have indicated above will be entered as seed data?
