  1. A big thank you to all the IWM volunteers.

You have been helpful, professional and efficient. You should all be very proud of yourselves for creating something very special. There are a lot of negative comments here, and I do share the frustrations of those who can't track down someone when they should be there. But don't forget the original records were hand written and many have been destroyed, so don't blame the volunteers. They can only work with what they have got, and have spent many unpaid hours helping the rest of us.

  2. Lives Continue to be Remembered

Would it be possible to create some supplementary IWM site once the transfer takes place to allow the site to be dynamic rather than static?! Great work has been done to remember over the last 4 plus years but what about future research that adds to those stories? I have spent 4 years researching a particular incident and it is possible that more may be discovered in time. Should that not be made available too?

  7. A note about Corrections

Any fact can be improved (corrected) by any registered user (not just subscribers) using external evidence. It's free and much quicker to do than making a request here. So if you notice a little change like a spelling correction or later rank that has been missed jump in and try it yourself.

  8. In Honour of Aubrey Neville Hutchinson No 3199

    Dear Sir

There is a website specifically to honour a young man, A N Hutchinson No 3199 of 2 South African Infantry , B Company. The site contains many photographs most taken on the exact centenary of his death on 15 July 1916.
In addition there is a listing of all 225 men of his company as well as a table of what happened to the men of B Coy who survived WW1.
    Regards
    D. Price.

  9. Correct the rank for Lance Corporal William Bowers 201389

The soldier is shown as a Private, but his army record clearly shows that he was made substantive Lance-Corporal on 15th June 1917. A local paper casualty list lists him as Lance Corporal as well.

  16. Problem editing a lifestory

I've just tried editing a lifestory, by adding some information about his death. I've entered the information successfully, but I'm unable to save it because when I click the Continue button there is no Save button available. The information is still there but greyed out. I've logged out and back in to no avail. The lifestory is: https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/309961. I was able to edit lifestories yesterday without any problems.

  17. Final Thoughts - You Reap what you Sow

The First World War Generation are surely deserving of a permanent digital memorial and as the Imperial War Museum was founded with “The intention was to collect and display material as a record of everyone’s experiences during that war - civilian and military - and to commemorate the sacrifices of all sections of society” it would seem on paper to be the perfect fit.
However despite the bold tagline “We believe that each and every one of the 8 million who served during WW1 deserves to be remembered” this claim does not hold up to scrutiny. What we have with…
