  1. What can I do if I have photos but can't pin down the right Life Story?

I'd like to upload some photos I have of my great uncle during WW1, but I don't know his service number, only that he served in Egypt in the RAMC. There are 3 possible Life Stories with the same name (William H Whitehead). I've tried searching Records for the 3 service numbers given, but can't find anything to rule any of them out. Nor can I find anything by searching on his name to link to Egypt. Any suggestions gratefully received.

      • Information missing from Dashboard and Community pages

I've recently noticed that rank, middle names, dates of birth and death and number of people remembering them are no longer visible for some (but certainly not all) remembered 'Lives' on my dashboard or Community pages - e.g. see https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/community/5977 p2 Frederick Purton and Humphrey John Talbot. The missing info reappears when the record is opened but it would be good to have it visible again on dashboard and Community pages. How can I achieve this? Thank you, Jane

        • Ernest Chadderton - assistance needed in corroborating identity

Searching for the records of Ernest Chadderton whose headstone in the churchyard at Foston in Derbyshire reads "In loving memory of Ernest beloved son of Mary Chadderton (Foston) who gave his life for his country Jan 25th 1922 aged 24 years". I believe that this is Gunner Ernest Chadderton 107104 Royal Field Artillery.

as I have found a Silver War Badge entry for him showing he was discharged 7 May 1919 aged 22. Census record 1901 shows him aged 3 living at 122 Derby Road, Foston with mother Mary Ann and older brother Albert. Census record 1911 shows him…

            • Availability of material once Lives finishes

Please can you advise if Lives will remain available after the project finishes? It would be really helpful.

              • St.Clement Danes Book of Remembrance

Along both sides of the church are shrines of remembrance, containing the books of remembrance, in which are inscribed the names of those men and women who have died on active service with the Royal Air Force.
Could get there for a possible photograph when the weather is better or maybe you have some already.

                • London East End and the resistance to World War 1

Maybe David Rosenberg (historian) is known to the IWM.
If not, this is a very interesting talk which is available on Youtube.

                  • Communities

Surely those people who do a lot of research and contribute massively to the IWM records (I myself have posted hundreds of additions) should have free access to Communities.
I have much more research I would like to add but I cannot afford to pay for multiple sites - I'm already a member of Ancestry and Find My Past.

                    • Why?

Why are some people not showing as remembered? I have devoted the past year to your belief that everyone should be remembered but the computer is not showing this. Have you a review form or a feedback form from past subscribers? I feel that I have been mis sold.

                      • Adding half-siblings

Could you consider adding categories for half-brother and half-sister, as that is not a current option for siblings but is the case in a number of families?

                          • Advice needed about a man who took a new identity; official records show new name.

This case is highly unusual, and I am wondering which way is the best way to record the newer (but more factual) information.
"George Marshe" (https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/7571885) is in fact Frank Myburgh, and place of birth was Cape Town, not Essex, as per his war records.

It's all fully explained in this entry: https://www.geni.com/people/Francis-Gerhard-Myburgh-a-k-a-George-Marshe/6000000039901456692

I would appreciate some ideas on how best to record the new facts; I am assuming that the main record has to remain as George Marshe because that's how he was known during WW1 (and for some time before that).

                            Can anyone who responds to…

                              • Can not access complete list of people in the record sets through search engine

It seems that search engine is not returning proper results, especially when handling a large amount of search results.
For example, links below are page 76 and 77 of the Conscientious Objectors Register index (sorted by last names) but they display exactly same results.

                                https://search.livesofthefirstworldwar.org/search/world-records/conscientious-objectors-register-1914-1918?o=lastname&page=76

This glitch could be inconvenient for the person who wants to review comprehensive results.

                                  • John Tremayne (Babington)

I am uncertain about which name to use for this person. He served in both wars, born Babington, brother of Philip Babington, but changed his name in 1945 to his mother's maiden name (Tremayne) to avoid confusion with his brother.
I have called him Tremayne, but put "served as" Babington - but when I search on John Tremayne Babington, he is not found.
Any suggestions as to how he should be presented for best usage?

How besy do I record the experirnces of military and political vrtrrans from WWII and subsrwuent colonial wars? Were I to record their remeniscences through a 'Voice Recognition' software, I should be able to edit it on 'Word' or some similar system. Can the IWM or any individual offer me advice?
