Civilian - Henry Surguy - Lord Kitchener's Butler
Kitchener's personal servant or butler, Henry Surguy, was initiated into Bulwer Lodge No 1068 of Cairo on 1st February 1913, Passed 3rd May 1913 and Raised (post mortem) 7th June 1916 . He died on board HMS Hampshire, aged 35, with his master on 5th June 1916 and is listed on the Roll of Honour at Freemasons Hall as “Henry Surguy”. In the records of the United Grand Lodge of England he is shown recorded "Henry Surguy" and as a Butler. The associated notes show "Died active service 5.6.16" - as a result of the sinking of HMS Hampshire.
