Suggested Life Stories

Before requesting a new Life Story, please follow these steps:

1. Check to see whether the individual meets the criteria for inclusion in Lives of the First World War: http://support.livesofthefirstworldwar.org/knowledgebase/articles/1164868-who-is-included-in-lives-of-the-first-world-war

2. Search for the individual on Lives of the First World War. Please see this page for tips on how to do so: https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/finding-a-named-individual

3. If you have information about an individual who doesn’t currently have a Life Story page, please enter the person’s name in the box labelled ‘Enter your idea’, and then post details underneath (‘Describe your idea’) with as much evidence as possible.

Evidence can be images or documents containing details about the person, website links, book references or genealogy records. If you believe that a person has more than one Life Story page that requires merging, please include the URLs.

IWM Staff and Volunteers aim to deal with your request as soon as possible. To help us to do this, please enter one request per post. Thank you.

Please suggest Life Stories that you would like to be created or merged

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

          • Please add Ernest Edward Pateman

The only trace I can find of this man is his entry in the Surrey Recruitment Registers, but he was evidently conscripted and was assigned a service number (56716) in the London Regiment. Please see:
            https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBM/SURREG/00055668

                          • New Life Story please

Please create a life story for Captain Cyril Ernest Ambrose Goddard R.A.M.C.
The record I have found, showing service in East Africa and France is added below but I haven't found a medal record - odd as he served overseas. I have checked that he is not Private C.A. Goddard, whose M.R.I.C. shows, apart from wrong rank, a middle name of Alfred. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/2896/40584_606246_0912-00136?pid=10032&backurl=https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv%3D1%26dbid%3D2896%26h%3D10032%26tid%3D%26pid%3D%26usePUB%3Dtrue%26_phsrc%3DAlC915%26_phstart%3DsuccessSource&treeid=&personid=&hintid=&usePUB=true&_phsrc=AlC915&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true

                                • Percy Berrycloth/ Percy Berrycloath RFA service number 1560

                                  These are the same man.

                                  https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/320264

There is a third Life Story which is also him - the Medal Index Card on Ancestry says see Berry, Horace.

I started with P Berrycloth because of a CWGC record. I found the Medal Index Card on Ancestry which made it clear his first name was Percy. There is a Birth Registration. Thanks very much

                                        • Duplicate Records for George Henry Howlett born 3/2/1890

I think these two records may be the same person as date and place of birth are the same.
