Suggested Life Stories

Before requesting a new Life Story, please follow these steps:

1. Check to see whether the individual meets the criteria for inclusion in Lives of the First World War: http://support.livesofthefirstworldwar.org/knowledgebase/articles/1164868-who-is-included-in-lives-of-the-first-world-war

2. Search for the individual on Lives of the First World War. Please see this page for tips on how to do so: https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/finding-a-named-individual

3. If you have information about an individual who doesn’t currently have a Life Story page, please enter the person’s name in the box labelled ‘Enter your idea’, and then post details underneath (‘Describe your idea’) with as much evidence as possible.

Evidence can be images or documents containing details about the person, website links, book references or genealogy records. If you believe that a person has more than one Life Story page that requires merging, please include the URLs.

IWM Staff and Volunteers aim to deal with your request as soon as possible. To help us to do this, please enter one request per post. Thank you.

Please suggest Life Stories that you would like to be created or merged

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

                              • My father William Farnham 1st city of London Fusiliers. A story to tell of his bravery at the age of 17and A half years old.

I would like to be able to include my fathers story in the lives of the First World War records.
He joined the army in 1915 at the age of 16 years. In 1916 he was made second lieutenant and later that year a further promotion to lieutenant.
In October of that year he was on the Somme and his troop were cut off behind enemy lines. he was badly wounded when talking to the company runner, the runner was killed in the same shell blast. My father with his left arm blown off and most of his fingers lost…

                                • Corporal John Wilkinson Parker, 1st Bttn Northumberland Fusiliers (No 204106)

My grandfather was the youngest of 9 children. He was born in 1898 and the family story is that he volunteered early in the war hoping that his two older brothers, who both had children, would not be called up because they were miners. I'm not sure if he lied about his age but he was very young. He lost an arm in an action for which he won the Military Medal (gazetted 21 Oct 1918). I have no citation for, or details of, the award - but would love to know more. He died in 1948 at the age…
