Suggested Life Stories

If you have information about an individual who doesn’t currently have a Life Story page, please post details here with as much evidence as possible.

Before submitting a request, please search for the Life Story page on Lives of the First World War.
◾Use the SEARCH BOX at the top of every page. Try surname and service number, if appropriate, e.g. “Smith 40348”
◾Try wildcards to match variations, e.g. “W* Tickle” to match “Will,” “William” or “Walter”
◾Middle names are rarely included in full. Try searching without and then narrow down your search.
◾Don’t forget names can be written in many ways. Try looking for variations, e.g. “John”, “Jon”, “Jack”, “Johnny” or “J”
◾The person may have served under a different name, e.g. did a woman serve with her maiden or married name? Did they use a nickname, e.g. ‘Betty’ instead of ‘Bertha’?

If you believe that a person has more than one Life Story page that requires merging, please include the URLs.

IWM Staff and Volunteers aim to deal with your request as soon as possible.

Please suggest Life Stories that you would like to be created or merged

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

I do not know who she is yet. Maybe I could visit Bevis Marks Synagogue and ask if they have any information. Her name is on their War Memorial.

          • Petty Officer Wilfred Rawlings

I have tried every permutation of this man and his name, but cannot find an existing record from the Royal Navy Seamen 1899-1919 record seeding. Would this be because he is an officer? He does appear on WW1 Naval Casualties on Findmypast, if that could be used as a seed? His centenary of death is this year, so it would be good to get him uploaded.

I have photographs of a memorial to him in the cemetery of his parents' parish church in Alveston/Tiddington, Warwickshire and a picture of his name of the village's war memorial, both of which I…

                        • Please can you add a new entry for Wilfred Leslie Lamb

Can you add an entry for 2/Lieutenant Wilfred Leslie LAMB Royal Engineers.
                          http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1155521?descriptiontype=Full&ref=WO+339/101700
He is in the Bromley Absent voters list for 1918 with the details as above.
In 1926 when he took up a position at Bexhill on Sea as a new headmaster the local newspaper described him "During the war he held a commission in the Royal Engineers and saw service in Mesopotamia."

                          • Duplicate: James William Albert Simpson MC, AIF

There is a main entry at https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/5404755 with images and lots of facts, and a second entry https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/7587206 based on Australian ANZACs from the National Archives of Australia

Aside from the exact names match, the next of kin name matches that of his wife in the other life story.

                            • New Entry? - Capt. R. Risk, 6th Gordon Highlanders M.C. and Bar

I am working my way through the book, The 6th Gordons in Flanders and France which was written just after the Great War and within it, there is a photo of the above person and who also appears in the book under the awards section. I can only find two 'Risk', in Gordon Highlanders on this site, both Privates and none with the same initial, he also didn't appear in Ancestry. If he does not have a profile here could you please add one.

                              Many Thanks

                                      • Captain Frederic Walter Hodson

Captain Frederic Walter Hodson has an officer's service record for the First World War http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C704106 but does not seem to have a medal card (he either did not serve overseas or did not claim his medals)

There are also several matching Gazette entries https://www.thegazette.co.uk/all-notices/notice?text=%22frederic+walter+hodson%22&service=all-notices
