Suggested Life Stories

If you have information about an individual who doesn’t currently have a Life Story page, please post details here with as much evidence as possible.

Before submitting a request, please search for the Life Story page on Lives of the First World War.
◾Use the SEARCH BOX at the top of every page. Try surname and service number, if appropriate, e.g. “Smith 40348”
◾Try wildcards to match variations, e.g. “W* Tickle” to match “Will,” “William” or “Walter”
◾Middle names are rarely included in full. Try searching without and then narrow down your search.
◾Don’t forget names can be written in many ways. Try looking for variations, e.g. “John”, “Jon”, “Jack”, “Johnny” or “J”
◾The person may have served under a different name, e.g. did a woman serve with her maiden or married name? Did they use a nickname, e.g. ‘Betty’ instead of ‘Bertha’?

If you believe that a person has more than one Life Story page that requires merging, please include the URLs.

IWM Staff and Volunteers aim to deal with your request as soon as possible.

Please suggest Life Stories that you would like to be created or merged

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

                • 2/Lt Cecil Baron Briggs, Royal Engineers

C B Briggs appears on the WW1 “Roll of Honour” in Trumpington Village Hall (Cambs). The Electoral Register for 1920 shows Cecil Baron Briggs living in Chaucer Road, Trumpington. In the 1911 census he appears at school in Uppingham, Rutland, age 15 born Cambridge.

There are two entries showing 2nd Lt Cecil Baron Briggs in the Royal Engineers, in 1915 and 1918, both in the London Gazette. See http://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=gbor%2flon%2fvol04%2f0607&parentid=gbor%2flon%2fvol04%2f0607&highlights=%22%22 and http://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=gbor%2flon%2fvol23%2f0423&parentid=gbor%2flon%2fvol23%2f0423&highlights=%22%22 .

He is missing from the IWM database, I believe, so please add him.

                        • new profile Dorothy Goulding (later Mills), Suffolk Red Cross Society,

came across this photo which references Dorothy Goulding:

one of the very few women drivers of the 41st Detachment of the Suffolk Red Cross Society. Up to three times a week she would answer a call for volunteers to drive the wounded from Ingham station to hospital at Ampton Hall.

                          • Edgar Buxton

Sorry this morning I deleted my request for a record to be created for Edgar Buxton because I found he already had a IWM Lives record when he transferred from the Red Cross to A,S.C. M.T.. However you were probably working on this person at the time and created Hi Wendy, here is Edgar's life story: https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/7676985https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/LifeStory/7676985
Meanwhile I've added info to the other record https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/lifestory/690338
Please may I request these records to be merged with the latter being the primary record. Many apologies for the extra work I've caused.
                            Wendy
